WEBSITE DESIGN + BUILD (x4)
Maverick Projects repurposes urban, forgotten spaces into South London venues that are full of character and incredibly adaptable. They provide unforgettable settings for celebrations, weddings, exhibitions and all manner of creative projects. They bring visions to life.
When we started working with Maverick they had a number of websites for individual venues, all in slightly different styles, which lacked a common thread. It wasn’t obvious what was special about a ‘Maverick Projects’ venue. With spaces varying from grand old church buildings to small white cube exhibition spaces, giving all spaces a common ‘theme’ wasn’t necessarily an easy task.
Each space was wonderfully unique and that needed to be celebrated…
our strategy
We started with understanding why people love Maverick Projects. We wanted to know what the ‘magic’ was that people felt in their venues and why they’d recommend them to their friends and family. We dug into reviews, chatted with the team and got under the skin of the brand.
When speaking with founders and artists Jo and Dido, we realised just how much personal passion went into transforming these forgotten spaces into something people could love once more. As creatives, they wanted to create spaces that meant something to the people using them. And they did this by leaning into what these unique buildings already had to offer. They are artists first, and commercial space providers second.
This is what made them different, this is what enabled them to see the potential of a forgotten space.
We found the magic.
Through competitor analysis and identifying the market space they could own, we settled on three core ideas that came together to form the Maverick Projects brand: forgotten spaces, unbeatable experiences and creativity first.
We put together a brand framework and messaging strategy that communicated the importance of what they do, and built 5 new websites for all of their venues, celebrating their uniqueness whilst remaining obviously part of the Maverick Projects brand — whilst, importantly, optimising each venue for search.
The brand’s competitors generally have commercial backgrounds and create spaces that are ‘popular’. Maverick do things differently. They care about creativity, charm and experience. Tapping into the beauty of their one-of-a-kind venues and identifying the ‘mavericks’ amongst us was key to standing out in a busy market.
